Reach Stories

Easier showers for every body

Fähloo: an easier reach, every shower.

Washing your back, legs and feet shouldn’t take a twist, a test of patience or a drawer full of tools. Here’s how Fähloo, an exfoliating bathing mesh that extends, fits six very different shower routines.

The first homemade Fähloo, a plain coral mesh knotted at one end, draped over a wooden peg on a stone wall in Dubrovnik

Now: the finished Fähloo, hanging open to dry on its Shower Valet.

Where it all began

A Loofah, With a Twist.

Fähloo started with one stubborn problem: reaching the middle of my own back, plus the curves and the spots behind me that a washcloth never quite gets to. Travel made it worse. Overseas and in Airbnbs, a washcloth was never a sure thing, and a traditional loofah stayed wet, got musty and wore out fast. So I made the first version myself: a mesh I could whip dry in a few quick snaps and tuck into a bag. I carried it everywhere, including to Dubrovnik in June 2023, where that first photo was taken. That photo captures the moment I decided to pursue Fähloo as a real product idea. For years I refined that homemade version in my own shower. The knot became two soft silicone handles, a small one that tucks into a large one, so Fähloo bundles into a washcloth-style mesh and then extends for your back. The handles stay easy to grip, even when soapy, and the mesh pulls past the knobs and through the large handle to wring out. And because a wet mesh needs a place to dry, I added the Shower Valet, so Fähloo hangs open on the wall between showers. That’s the finished Fähloo pictured here: less like a gadget, more like a small daily luxury.

Even the name tells the story: swap the syllables of loofah and you get Fähloo. And look closely at our monogram: it’s someone washing their back.

How it works

Three moves, one tool

Compact Pebble Grey Fähloo lathered up in a gorilla hand, used like a washcloth

STEP 1

Compact for everything in front

Handles together, it feels like a familiar washcloth. Water and soap do the cleansing; the mesh gives gentle contact.

Gorilla holding one Fähloo handle by his shoulder, the blue mesh extended diagonally across his back

STEP 2

Extend for your back

A handle in each hand and the mesh glides across your back and body, like drying off with a towel. Its shape follows your curves, so it stays in confident contact. No reaching over your shoulder.

Sea Salt Blue Fähloo hanging extended on two clear suction hooks on white shower tile

STEP 3

Wring and hang

Pull the mesh past the knobs and through the large handle to press out the soap, then hang it on the two suction hooks. Designed to dry quickly, so it stays fresh.

The Reach Stories

About these stories

The six people below are illustrative composite characters, not real customers and not reviews. We built each one from everyday shower challenges people describe and from how bathing aids are usually used to solve them, then showed how Fähloo fits in. Photos are illustrative scenes, not customer photos. Real owner stories are shared only with permission, first name only.

Reach every curve, without the contortion

“Standard tools are too short for me” · illustrative story

“I don’t have to choose between a clean back and a comfortable shower anymore. It just reaches.”Denise, illustrative character
Read Denise’s story: before, how and after

Before Fähloo

Washing her back had turned into a wrestling match. Her back brush was a flat head on a short plastic stick. It reached the tops of her shoulders and not much else, and the hard edge dug in when she pushed. Her legs and feet meant bending over in a slippery tub, so most days she rushed them and got out feeling only half done.

What Denise used before: Short-handled back brush · Mesh pouf · Washcloth

How Fähloo fits Denise’s routine

  • Extended: she holds one handle in each hand and glides the mesh across her back, the same motion as drying off with a towel. No reaching over the shoulder, no twisting.
  • The soft mesh follows her shape instead of pressing a flat brush head against it, so it reaches the middle of her back, her sides and the backs of her legs.
  • Compact: handles together for everything in front, with the familiar feel of a washcloth.
  • A rinse, an easy wring-out (pull the mesh past the knobs and through the large handle), and it hangs on the suction hooks to dry.

After

Her whole back gets the same attention as everything else, and she is not fighting her tools anymore. The brush and the pouf are gone. Showers feel like hers again: unhurried, warm and done.

What usually helps

People with fuller frames often look for two things: more length than a standard brush, and a soft surface that follows curves. Strap-style washers with a handle at each end are a classic answer, because you pull them across your back and body instead of reaching over your shoulder. Fähloo works the same way, with a mesh that extends.

Before Fähloo

By her third trimester, Maya’s bump had opinions about everything, including her shower. Her feet were out of sight, her balance felt different, and washing her lower legs meant a careful lean she didn’t love. Her partner had started washing her back for her. Sweet, but not the quiet, all-mine shower she used to look forward to.

What Maya used before: Loofah on a stick · Washcloth · A helping hand for her back

How Fähloo fits Maya’s routine

  • Her sister sent Fähloo as a just-because gift, in Desert Rose.
  • Extended, Maya slides the mesh across her back with a handle in each hand, arms low and relaxed.
  • For her lower legs she lets the mesh drape down and draws it up with both handles, so she can stand tall instead of folding over her bump.
  • Pressure is her call: light most days, a little more after a long day on her feet.

After

Her shower is her ten quiet minutes again. She washes her own back, her partner gets his mornings back, and the loofah on a stick, always a little damp and a little sad, is gone.

What usually helps

Moms-to-be say the same things again and again: the bump changes how you reach, and balance feels different. Common advice includes a non-slip mat, warm (not hot) water, everything within reach, and help nearby when you want it. Fähloo is one small comfort in that routine and doesn’t replace any of it.

Fähloo makes no health or safety claims. Talk with your doctor or midwife about anything that concerns you.

Marcus grinning in a locker room after a softball game, packing a compact Pebble Grey Fähloo into its travel bag

“I was looking for a workaround for a few weeks. I ended up with a better way to shower, period.”Marcus, illustrative character
Read Marcus’s story: before, how and after

Before Fähloo

A diving catch in a Thursday game left Marcus with a shoulder that wanted nothing to do with reaching up or behind, and his care team told him to take it easy for a while. The problem: every back scrubber he owned worked by reaching over the shoulder. He tried a towel looped behind his back, a quick rinse-and-hope, and one very awkward lean against the wall. After the gym, showers took twice as long and felt half as good.

What Marcus used before: Long-handled back brush · Towel looped behind his back · Bar soap and hope

How Fähloo fits Marcus’s routine

  • Extended keeps his hands low: one handle in each hand, the mesh pulled side to side across his back, with far less reaching up and behind.
  • His stronger arm does most of the work. The other just holds a handle and follows along, within whatever range his care team is comfortable with.
  • Compact for a fast wash after practice, then an easy wring-out through the large handle, and it hangs to dry before the next game.
  • The waterproof travel bag means it lives in his gym bag on game days.

After

Quick showers after the game are quick again. He washes his whole back without the contortion act, and the reach-over-your-shoulder brush stayed in the closet. Once the shoulder came around, Fähloo stuck. It’s just faster.

What usually helps

Common advice for showering with a sore shoulder: keep supplies within reach, let the stronger arm lead, and use a long-reach tool so you are not twisting. Two-handle strap tools you pull side to side are a favorite because they cut out most of the overhead reaching. Always follow your doctor or physical therapist.

Read Linda’s story: before, how and after

Before Fähloo

When Linda came home, a shower was the biggest thing she did all morning. Every step took energy: finding the soap, bending for the sponge she dropped, squeezing out a heavy, soggy foam head with tired hands. The long-handled sponge she was given helped with reach, but it never quite dried and started to smell. Some days she skipped the shower just to save her strength.

What Linda used before: Foam long-handled sponge · Two washcloths · A separate scrubber for her feet

How Fähloo fits Linda’s routine

  • One tool for the whole routine: Compact for the front, Extended for her back and legs.
  • The Shower Valet holds Fähloo on the wall at the height she chooses, so it is always within reach and never on the floor.
  • Wringing is easy on tired hands: she pulls the mesh past the knobs and through the large handle to press out the soap, with far less squeezing.
  • The mesh is designed to dry quickly, so it stays fresh between showers. No more soggy foam.

After

Her shower is simple now: everything in one place, one tool, no bending to fish things off the floor. She finishes with energy left for the rest of her day, and getting clean feels like a win instead of a chore. Her daughter stopped asking if she needed help.

What usually helps

Energy-saving advice for showering often comes down to the “5 P’s”: prioritize, plan, position, pace and breathe. In practice that means gathering everything first, keeping tools within reach, using warm (not hot) water, and choosing tools that cut out extra bending and squeezing. Fähloo was designed to cut those extra steps.

Read Walt’s story: before, how and after

Before Fähloo

Walt’s daughter worries. After a wobble getting out of the tub last winter, she had a grab bar put in and bought him a long-handled sponge. He used it, mostly. But the foam head went gray and musty, the fixed handle angle never matched his back, and bending to wash his feet was the part of the shower he dreaded. He would never say so. Asking for help washing up was not on the table.

What Walt used before: Long-handled foam sponge · Washcloth · A brush for his feet

How Fähloo fits Walt’s routine

  • His daughter gave him Fähloo for his birthday. He was skeptical for about one shower.
  • Extended for his back: a handle in each hand, the mesh pulled across. The flexible mesh has no fixed angle to fight.
  • For his lower legs and feet, he lets the mesh hang down and draws it back up with the handles, with far less bending.
  • It hangs on the suction hooks at a height he picked himself, next to the grab bar he still uses.

After

He showers on his own schedule, his own way, and he is the one who gets to say he’s fine. The foam sponge is gone, his daughter worries a little less, and Walt likes telling people the thing “actually works.”

What usually helps

Occupational therapists often suggest the same short list for an easier shower: grab bars, a non-slip mat, a handheld showerhead, and long-reach tools that cut down on bending. Fähloo fits into that routine. It is not a safety device and doesn’t replace grab bars or a shower seat.

“Reaching my back without the twist” · illustrative story

“Every other tool asked my body to fit it. This is the first one that fit me.”Jen, illustrative character
Read Jen’s story: before, how and after

Before Fähloo

Jen’s shoulders and hips had been stiffening up for years. Reaching between her shoulder blades was out, and twisting to wash her back put her in a bad mood for the rest of the morning. She tried every back brush on the shelf: straight handles, curved handles, a bendable one. Each was fixed at somebody else’s idea of the right angle, and holding a thin plastic handle with soapy hands tired out her grip.

What Jen used before: Curved back brush · Bendable long-handled sponge · Exfoliating gloves

How Fähloo fits Jen’s routine

  • No fixed angle: the mesh adapts to her reach, not the other way around.
  • Extended, she holds a handle in each hand and draws the mesh across her back, keeping her arms in a range that feels comfortable.
  • There is no one right way to hold it: by the handles, by the mesh, or with the mesh wrapped around the large handle for a firmer feel.
  • The Shower Valet holds Fähloo at a comfortable height, so she never bends to pick it up.

After

Her back gets washed without the twist, and her mornings start without the frustration. Two brushes and a pair of gloves left the shower caddy. Fähloo is the only tool in there now.

What usually helps

Long-reach tools come with straight, curved or bendable handles because everyone’s comfortable range is different. Strap-style tools with two handles let you pull across your back and body instead of reaching up and behind. Fähloo’s extending mesh takes that idea and lets you choose the length every time.

Questions

Common questions

What can I use to wash my back if I can’t reach it?

Long-handled brushes and sponges help many people, and two-handle strap washers let you pull across your back and body instead of reaching over your shoulder. Fähloo is an exfoliating bathing mesh with a handle at each end that extends, so you can choose Compact for the front or Extended for your back and curves.

Why does Fähloo have that unusual shape and those knobs?

The shape is designed to conform to your body’s curves, contours and shapes, so the mesh keeps confident, even contact with your back, hips and legs. It also wraps: loop the mesh around an arm, a leg or the back of your neck, or around a foot and between your toes, for steady contact with less bending. The 8 knobs (4 at each end of the large handle) do 4 jobs: they hold the washcloth bundle, pinch the mesh as you wring it through the large handle, anchor the Mesh Binder when you pack it, and they’re firm enough to work into muscle knots and athletic soreness. Under warm water, press and roll them over a tight spot for a soothing massage that helps ease minor muscle soreness. Fähloo is a personal care product, not a medical device.

Can Fähloo replace a long-handled sponge or back brush?

It is designed to. One Fähloo covers the front in Compact mode and your back, legs and feet in Extended mode. It wrings out easily when you pull the mesh past the knobs and through the large handle, and it hangs on two suction hooks to dry.

How do I keep a bath scrubber fresh?

A quick rinse, a gentle wring, and hang it where air can move around it. Fähloo is designed to dry quickly, so it stays fresh. It dries best when it can breathe.

Is Fähloo a medical device?

No. Fähloo is a personal care product, not a medical device. It doesn’t replace grab bars, a shower seat or advice from your doctor or therapist.
